Vertigo Afternoon

Each corner lunges towards my eye’s corner
Every step shimmers, then rushes up to meet me
Both eyes strain to focus, then falls back to wavering air
Each cell is heavy and longing to separate

The snow falling as it stops suspended
May clear my puzzled mind with rational chill
Or it may only fall again and fill my head
With rolls of woolen, blank exhaustion
